Uganda is a beautiful country in East Africa with nice weather all year round, rich wildlife, and extensive waterfalls, meadows, The Rift Valley, and Lake Victoria, among other lovely side attractions. The natural beauty of the country has attracted millions of visitors over the last decade and the number of foreigners trooping in keeps growing by the year. One of the nationalities that visit Uganda is Ethiopians. If you are from Ethiopia and wish to visit Uganda for holidays or business, you need to know the Uganda visa requirements for Ethiopian citizens.
Below we review the requirements and application steps so you can get the Uganda tourist visa you seek on time.
Uganda E Visa
The Uganda electronic visa (e-visa) was a 2016 initiative launched by the Ugandan government. The principal purpose of the visa is to simplify the visa application process for Ethiopian visitors, so they don’t have to visit the embassy in Addis Ababa. In addition, applicants don’t have to submit physical copies of their documents, nor do they have to deal with any visa center or official.
The application process is solely online and can be completed in the comfort of your home or office in 30 minutes or less. E visas are valid for 90 days and allow the holder to stay for up to 45 days.
Business Visa
The business visa is for Ethiopian business persons with business interests in Uganda. They can visit the country to attend meetings and conferences, set up new businesses, enter negotiations, or participate in any business-related activity.
Transit Visa
Transit Visas are for those taking connecting flights in Uganda en route to other countries. The visa is valid for only three days. However, you don't need a transit visa if you don’t plan to leave the airport.
East Africa Visa
Do you have plans to visit Kenya or Rwanda as well? Instead of applying for separate visas to visit all three countries, you can apply for a single East Africa Visa, which grants you access to all of them. The East Africa Visa is a joint agreement between the Kenyan, Rwandan and Ugandan governments to facilitate travel across the region and boost the respective countries' tourism industries.
Just like the other visas above, the East Africa visa is valid for 90 days and allows the holder to freely enter and exit the countries at will. However, the visa is only issued for tourism, and the holder must visit the country that issued the visa before visiting the other two.
Visa On Arrival
There is also a visa on arrival for Ethiopians who arrive in Uganda without a visa. The visa on arrival form is available at the arrival point at Entebbe airport. Any visitor coming for tourism will be issued the form to fill, sign and attach their document. After paying the visa application fee and submitting your passport, the immigration officer on duty will stamp it and issue you the visa so you can enter the country legally. The duration you will be given will be at the sole discretion of the officer.
