What people say about us
Slovakia Visa Policy
Slovakia is a country in Eastern Europe with a visa policy. This policy is a set of guidelines determining who is eligible for a visa and who may visit without one. This policy also clarifies the duration each visitor can stay in Slovakia per visit. Citizens of fellow Schengen countries don't need visas to enter Slovakia because Slovakia is a fellow Schengen nation, and member states practice a visa-free and open border policy within the bloc.
As a Schengen citizen, you can visit Slovakia or any Schengen country and stay indefinitely. All they need is a valid ID card issued by their government as an entry document, and they are good to go.
Visa Exempt Visitors
A visa-exempt visitor is a visitor who can enter Slovakia without a visa because of their nationality.
The Schengen bloc has signed visa waiver agreements with several countries that allow their citizens to visit visa-free. Such visitors may stay in Slovakia or any other Schengen country for up to 90 days in 180 days, but they must have a valid passport with a minimum validity of 3 months from their entry date, including an online visa waiver authorization called ETIAS.
Non Visa Exempt Visitors
Citizens from non-visa-exempt countries will need visas to enter Slovakia, representing travelers from a host of countries. Such visitors must approach the Slovakian embassy or consulate in their countries to apply for a Schengen visa for a shirt term trip that will last up to three months or a national visa for a long-term visit. With a visa issued by a Schengen country, you may travel to any of the countries on the bloc.
Slovakia ETIAS
The European Union, in conjunction with member states, has announced an online authorization program for visa-exempt visitors. Suppose you currently do not need a visa to enter Slovakia or any Schengen country by virtue of your passport. In that case, you will need to get this online authorization called ETIAS by 2024 to gain access to the Schengen Area.
ETIAS is a multiple-entry document valid for 3 years, and it grants the holder access to any of the 27 countries in the Schengen bloc, including other EU countries that are not part of the bloc. The form is approved online and linked to the visitor's passport and can be used for multiple reasons like medical treatment, tourism, business, or transit. It is basically for shorter term trips, not long-term.
Visitors that require visas for Slovakia may apply to an embassy for any of the above purposes and other long-term reasons.
Slovakia ETIAS Information For Applicants
Application Fee: The application fee is not for all applicants but only for visitors between 18-70 years old. Persons outside this age bracket are exempted from payment.
Security Alerts: Applications that trigger security alerts after a successful scan in the various security databases deployed will not be approved. Applications pass through numerous databases inside and outside of Europe to screen visitors from visa-exempt countries. However, the European Commission has announced that unsuccessful applicants may try again a few months later and may be approved for the trip.
Duration Cycle: The 90 days visit is constrained by the 180-day duration cycle. All visitors coming to the Schengen Zone may not stay for more than 90 days in 6 months. If they wish to revisit Slovakia or the Schengen zone, they must exit the region and wait for the 6 months Cycle to elapse before returning. The cycle starts counting from the first day they set foot in any Schengen or EU country.
Multiple Applications: You should not apply for multiple ETIAS as this is prohibited. If you apply for a new one while the old one has not expired, the new ETIAS will immediately invalidate the old one if it is approved. Moreover, doing multiple applications may trigger suspicious activity, which may lead to problems further down the line.
Local Unit: Slovakia has a local Unit for unapproved applications that the online system has not rejected. This unit is manned by government officials who will go through such applications by hand and decide whether to approve the application or not. Manual applications take days or weeks.
Not For Work: This authorization is not for work or study but only for short-term purposes, as stated above. If your visit is for any other purpose, kindly visit a Slovakian embassy to apply for a visa.
Approved Routes: Visitors are advised to only visit the country through approved routes, not unapproved ones. If you must use the land borders z pass through the authorized checkpoints operated by government agents, they are safe and offer passport stamp duties.
Eligibility: Lastly, we need to remind you that this permit is only for visa-free eligible visitors, not non visa-free visitors. It is your passport that will determine your eligibility. If you currently don'tdon't need a visa to enter the Schengen zone, then you are eligible for ETIAS once it becomes operational in 2024.
