Madagascar is open for business, and the government welcomes visitors for business-related activities as long as they possess a Madagascar Business Visa. This visa program has been issued to visitors for a while now as the government seeks to open the economy to foreign direct investments and new talents. To facilitate the inflow of visitors, Madagascan embassies and foreign missions issue business visas to eligible applicants with genuine business interests. If you would like to know all about the visa, keep reading.
Madagascar Business Visa
A business visa is issued to visitors who are business persons, professionals, or investors coming for business related activities. There are several benefits attached to this travel document; firstly, the holder can visit any part of the country to pursue their business interests. As a business visitor to Madagascar, you can attend business conferences and exhibitions or negotiate contracts with partners, associates, or representatives who may or may not be Madagascar citizens.
Secondly, you can visit as an investor looking to start a new business, invest in an existing business, or even partner with other business persons. The business visa is so flexible that you are not restricted to what you can do during your stay; as long as you are a genuine business visitor and now coming for any other reason, you are good to go.
A business visa is valid for 90 days and allows the visitor to stay for up to 90 days. Furthermore, business visas are single entry documents, so they can only be used once, but there are exceptions where the visitor may be handed a multiple entry visa which allows the holder to visit the country several times within a calendar year.

Madagascar Visa Policy
According to the official visa policy of the Madagascan government, all visitors must obtain a visa if they wish to enter the country for any reason. Visas are issued in advance of the day the traveler wishes to visit online or in person at the airport on arrival. The third option is for them to visit the Madagascan foreign mission closest to them to apply for a consular visa. Consular Visas are for long-term visits like work, residency, and study, while the visa on arrival and e-visa is short-term visit visas that cannot be used for work or study.
A visitor must have a passport valid for the next 6 months as a bare minimum and an onward or return flight ticket. Furthermore, a passport-sized photograph taken not later than 6 months prior and printed on a white background will also be required.
In addition, the applicant must fill out an application form with accurate information and then attach all necessary documents to the form for submission. Without these documents, the application will not be processed.
Madagascar Visa on Arrival and e Visa
The visa on arrival and electronic visas are issued to all nationals, with the exception of citizens of Palestine and Burundi. Birth visas are issued as single and multiple entry visas, allowing holders to stay for 30,60 or 90 days, depending on their nationality. While the visa on arrival is issued to the visitor once they arrive in the country, e-visas should be applied for at least 3 days before the planned travel date.
Apart from holding a valid visa, visitors are also expected to have sufficient funds to cover their traveling and living expenses and a yellow fever vaccination certificate for travelers who have lived or visited an endemic area within the last 6 months. The immigration officers will demand these documents at the entry port before the visitor is allowed into the country.
Key Information About the Visa For Madagascar
Extension: Although the maximum number of days you can spend in Madagascar is 90 days, you are allowed to apply for an extension if you need more time. To extend your visa, you must submit your application at least a few days before your current visa expires.
Visitors should apply for the extension by submitting an application to the nearest immigration office. The officer in charge will request to know why you wish to extend your stay, and if your wish is granted, you may be issued an extra 90 days. However, once this extension expires, you must exit the country. Also, note that staying in the country on an expired visa is illegal.
Passport: You must apply for the e-visa with a passport that is yours that will remain valid for at least three months after the designated date of departure from Madagascar. So as a caveat, your passport must be valid for 6 months as a bare minimum, from the day you arrive.
One Visa Per Traveler: Two persons cannot share a visa as it is a one-person-per-visa policy, and there are no group visas. In the case of minors, a visa must be procured for them by their guardian or parent. Parents must submit birth certificates to prove their relationships, while guardians must provide signed proof of consent form issued by the child’s parent.
Apply Early: This e-visa takes up to 72 hours before approval. However, delays may occur, which is rare. To avoid disappointments, consider submitting your application at least one week before the day you have earmarked for your trip.
Not For Residency: Remember that electronic visas are for short-term visits, not permanent residency. If you are seeking a long-term stay in the country, more than an e-visa or a visa on arrival will be required; what you will need is a consular visa. Visit the Madagascan embassy in your country to apply in person.
Not For Work: Electronic visas are not issued for employment but for tourism, business, and transit.
If you have secured employment with a company in Madagascar, you will need to apply for a consular work visa. Your employer can help you in this regard.
Approved Transit Route: Transit visitors are advised to only travel through Ivarto International Airport in the capital city of Antananarivo. Other airports are not approved for international travelers.
