Lesotho Visa Policy

Under Lesotho’s visa application, any visitor entering the country must get a visa unless their nationality exempts them from holding visas. Lesotho maintains a list of nations whose citizens can visit the country for short trips. If you are eligible for visa exemption, you can enter and stay in Lesotho for 90 days or 14 days per visit, depending on your nationality.

During your visit, you can tour the length and breadth of the country to enjoy the rich culture and scenic locations on display.

As for foreigners who don’t qualify for visa-free entry, they must apply for visas in one of two ways; through Lesotho’s foreign missions abroad or online. Submitting visa applications at foreign missions is mandatory if you are going for a long-term visit of up to one year or more.

Such visas take time to apply for, and the waiting time may extend for several weeks, but it is mandatory. The other option is to apply for an online visa for short trips. The type of Visa is called an electronic visa or e-visa.

Note: Always consult the visa free list to know whether you need a visa for your trip or not.

Lesotho e Visa

The Lesotho electronic visa is an online visa program launched by the government to facilitate speedy visa application by foreigners who require visas to enter the country. This Visa is open to business visitors, tourists, students, and foreign diplomats. Rather than waste time with applications to foreign missions, you can apply for the Visa from the comfort of your home and get it in days.

E Visa applications are processed within 72 hours and offer holders legal entry into Lesotho.

The Visa may be a single or multiple entry visa; you can stay in Lesotho with a single entry visa for 44 days, while multiple entry visa holders can stay for up to 180 days. However, the government allows visitors to apply for extensions if they wish to. Before submitting your online application, make sure your nationality qualifies you for it.

Key Information About Lesotho e Visa

Apply Outside Lesotho: Visitors looking to apply for an e-visa must do so in advance of their trip when they are outside Lesotho. Applying for a visa inside the country is prohibited.

Applying For Extension: You can apply for an extension if you need more time to conclude your affairs, but this must be done before your Visa expires.

Application for an extension should be submitted to the immigration authorities closest to you. The officer handling your application will decide how many days extra to give you.

Use The Same Passport: The passport you travel with must be the one you use for the application. Traveling with a different passport will render your visit as a legal visitor null and void because the law enforcement officers at the entry checkpoint will be unable to ascertain if you do have a valid visa or not. Never forget that e-visas and passports are linked, and the passport’s bio-data is what is used to generate the e-visa information.

Application Fees: It is mandatory to pay the application fee before you can submit the electronic Visa. E-visa fees are paid online with a credit or debit card, not cash. To execute payment, make sure the card you use has enough funds to cover the fee and transaction cost.

Not For Work: Lesotho e visas are not for work but for tourism, study, business, and diplomats. Many confuse business visas with work visas, but they are not. Business visas are strictly for business engagements of a noncommercial nature. This means that a person with a business visa is not allowed to engage in any activity that will earn them a wage for services rendered.

Visa Validity: Your Visa validity depends on the type of Visa you apply for and your passport validity. A multiple entry visa has a longer validity of 180 days compared to the 90 days of a single entry visa. Secondly, your passport validity also matters because the Visa will expire the moment the passport expires. Visas start counting the moment they are issued.

Print Your Application: Once the Visa is delivered to your email, print a copy and travel with it. This copy will come in handy at the entry checkpoint and when you are inside Lesotho. In case law enforcement agents interrogate you, you can always prove that you are in the country legally by showing them your valid Visa.
