Djibouti e Visa For Tourism
The e-visa for tourism is an electronic visa that grants the holder access to Djibouti for tourism. This visa is available online, and you can apply for it and receive it through your email address without the need to visit the nearest embassy or consulate. Tourism e-visas were introduced to replace the visa on arrival, and it is issued as a single entry visa for short visits. As an e-visa traveler, you must provide the date you plan to visit because the visa is valid for 31 days from the day you pick.
There are two types of e-visas for tourism; one allows you to stay for up to 14 days while the other allows for visits of up to 90 days, but note that both are single entry documents.
Port of Entry
- Ambouli International Airport (Djibouti City)
- All border crossings
Djibouti e Visa For Business
The e-visa for business is for business persons coming for commercial engagements. This e-visa is not a work visa but for those looking to pursue their business interests. The business e-visa is issued as a single entry visa meaning that you can only use it once, so if you plan to visit again, you will need to apply for a new visa altogether. The e-visa for business allows you to stay for 14 or 90 days, depending on your preference. If your engagement will take more than a few weeks, the 90-day visa is your best option.
You can use this visa to attend meetings and conferences, meet with your suppliers, negotiate and sign contracts, invest in any sector of the economy, etc. This e-visa program is open to visitors from eligible countries, but they must provide a letter of invitation if they are invited by a host along with other documents.
Port of Entry
• Ambouli International Airport (Djibouti City)
• All border crossings
Djibouti e Visa For Transit
If you are a transit visitor with plans to fly to a third country through Djibouti, you will need a transit visa if you plan to stay in the country for a short time. To be clear, Transit visitors who remain in the Transit area while waiting for their next flight at the Djibouti Ambouli International Airport do not need a transit visa; this e-visa is only required for those who plan to leave the transit area for trips into Djibouti capital city. The Transit visa is valid for 3 days, which means that you are not allowed to stay in the country for more than 72 hours as a transit visitor. Visitors who intend to stay for much longer will have to apply for other e-visas or a consular visa from an embassy or consulate.
To avail this e-visa, you will have to show proof that you indeed plan to depart the country for another country and that you are not seeking permanent residency in Djibouti. Travelers must have transit visas to be allowed to leave the airport.
Port of Entry
• Ambouli International Airport (Djibouti City)

Djibouti Visa Policy
The visa policy of Djibouti states that all visitors coming into the country must either get a visa from one of their diplomatic missions or an electronic visa, or a visa on arrival unless the visitor is from a visa-exempt country. Two countries make up Djibouti’s visa-exempt list: Singapore Passport holders who are allowed to stay for as long as they wish, and Chinese nationals who hold public affairs passports and can stay for as long as they wish. Every other foreign national must get one form of visa or another.
Visa On Arrival
Djibouti’s visa on arrival is issued to eligible visitors at the discretion of the immigration officers on duty. Beneficiaries of this visa on arrival, or VOA as often called, must have passports with a validity of minimum 6 months, counting from the arrival date. In addition to the passport, they must also hold a return or onward flight ticket issued for the trip out of the country. VOAs are issued for visits of up to 90 days.
Subsequently, the policy for visas on arrival changed and was gradually replaced with electronic visas for foreign nationals who hold passports. The long-term goal is for VOAS to be issued only to visitors who hold service, official or diplomatic passports.
Djibouti e-Visa
On February 18, 2018, the Djibouti government launched an eVisa program for foreign visitors who will gradually replace the Visa On Arrival program. This visa was designed for tourism, commerce, and transit purposes. Transit visitors can stay for 3 days or get a visit single entry visa for 31 days. This e-visa is accepted at the Ambouli International Airport or any of the legal border crossings. This online visa application form is available online and is issued to successful applicants electronically through their emails.
There is a fee attached to the application which must be paid with a credit or debit card without which the form cannot be submitted. In most cases, e visas are available to most foreign nationals as long as they meet the eligibility criteria which are listed below.
- The applicant must hold a valid passport from an eligible nation
- The applicant must be coming to Djibouti for a temporary visit
- The applicant must not come with the intention of seeking employment
- They must have proof of financial sufficiency

Proof of Funds: You will need to prove to the border agents that you have sufficient funds to cover your living and travel expenses. This may be in the form of cash or a bank statement. The amount of cash you need will depend on the number of days you intend to stay in the country. A traveler's cheque or credit or debit card will suffice.
Travel With A Copy Of Your Visa: The e visa will be delivered to your inbox once it is approved so make sure you print out a copy for reference purposes. Also travel with it to Djibouti and present it to the border control agents at the entry point.
Application Fees: It is mandatory for applicants to pay the visa application fee. Without paying this fee you will not be able to submit your application fee. Also note that the fee is not refundable and solely for processing. Paying the fee is not a guarantee that you will be issued the visa.

Be Security Conscious: Djibouti is located in a region of Africa rife with terrorism and kidnapping for ransom. Always use approved routes when visiting the country and be conscious of your environment when outdoors. If you must enter Djibouti through any of the border crossings, always move with a guide if you are a first time traveler.
