Cuba Visa Policy
Visitors coming to Cuba are divided into two groups; those requiring visas to enter the country and those who do not. Visitors that require visas are in the larger group, and they must get them before arriving in the country. There are two ways to get visas; they either get it at any of Cuba’s foreign missions or they get it online. However, there are provisions for authorized airlines and travel agencies to issue visas on behalf of the Cuban government.
The government of Cuba expects all visitors, including Cubans living abroad, to hold valid return tickets and a medical insurance certificate when coming to the country. This is irrespective of their visa status. Non-Cubans are also expected to show proof of financial solvency that they can sustain themselves for as long as they remain in the country. The passport validity for all visitors is at least two months and above fee from arrival.
Cuban nationals are required to use only their Cuban passports when traveling to Cuba unless they can show documentation to prove that they have renounced their Cuban citizenship.
Cuba Visa Exemption
Cuba maintains a list of countries on their visa waiver program, and citizens from these countries are allowed to enter the country without visas and stay for a period of time. The duration ranges from 30-90 days, but each country may have a unique condition.
Cuban Tourist Card
The Cuban tourist card is a special card for tourists with valid permanent resident permits or visas issued by the US, Canada, or a European Union country. With any of these documents, they can apply for a tourist card. However, some nationalities are not allowed to obtain the card even if they meet all the conditions. The tourist card is valid for 180 days.
Transit Passengers
International travelers passing through Cuba en route to another country do not need a tourist card or Transit visa unless they are going to spend more than 72 hours in the country.
