Cambodia Visa
A Cambodian visa is a travel permit issued to foreign nationals coming to the country. This document allows them access into the country for a time and has an expiry date. Cambodian visas have different validity periods: while some expire after a few weeks, others take months or years before they expire. There are visas for almost any purpose, including the following.
Transit Visa: A transit visa is issued to stay-short visitors planning connecting flights from Cambodia's Phnom Penh international airport to another country. This visa allows the holder to stay in Cambodia for a few days before they continue their trip. The Cambodian transit visa is essentially for travelers.
Tourist Visa: The tourist visa is the most popular. This one is designed for tourists coming to spend their vacation in the country or those coming for sightseeing. Tourist visas are valid for about six months.
Business Visa: The third visa we want to review is the business visa. Business ness visas are designed especially for business persons such as professionals, investors, employees of companies in Cambodia, or contractors. You can apply for this visa if you have a business engagement that requires your presence in Cambodia.
Work Visa: The government of Cambodia issues works visas to foreigners employed by the Cambodian government. This is the only visa that allows them to work legally in the country.
Job Seeking Visa: A Job seeking visa is a six months visa that allows the applicant to enter Cambodia to seek a job. This visa is extendable but only at the discretion of the visa officer.
Do I Need A Visa To Go To Cambodia?
So do you need a visa to go to Cambodia? What are the conditions you should know about?
Your Nationality: Whether you need a visa to visit Cambodia or not will depend on your nationality. Some countries on the visa-free lists include ASEAN nations like Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea. Citizens of the European Union, Australia, The US, and the UK enjoy visa-free privileges. If you are from any of these countries, you don’t require a visa if you are coming to Cambodia unless you seek permanent residency.
Length Of Stay: How long you plan to stay in Cambodia also matters. All nationals coming to Cambodia to stay for more than 180 days will require a visa, and Visa-free visitors can only stay for a few weeks. Common examples of long-term visits include visits for study, work, job seeking, or residency.
Cambodia Visa Fee
All visa applicants must pay an application fee for document processing. This fee is attached to the documents and is non-refundable. Furthermore, that you pay the fee does not guarantee that your visa request will be granted. You have to meet all the requirements to avail of the visa. The starting fee for a visa is $30 and may rise to $200 depending on the type of visa you are applying for.
Visa Extensions
Some visas are extendable, while others are not. For instance, tourist visas are valid for one month and cannot be extended, while business visas are extendable. If your visa is multiple entries, you may be able to extend it, but check with the immigration office to be sure. Visitors who overstay their visas will be required to pay a minimum of $10 each day they overstay.
As for visa extensions, you will have to visit the immigration office opposite Phnom Penh Airport. Once you submit your application for an extension, it takes only a few days. On average, a one-month extension costs $45, while a three-month extension takes $75. It will cost $155 for a six months extension and $285 for a year extension. Some travel agents and hotels can also help you with the arrangement if you don’t know how to go about it.
