Andorra Visa Policy
The government of Andorra does not impose visa requirements on visitors who are citizens of the European Union. All required is a national ID card or a passport as the entry document. A valid passport or ID card is not acceptable for persons who are not citizens of the EU. Andorra is bordered by Spain and France, both Schengen countries, so the country adopts the same visa rules as the Schengen Union. Despite not being a Schengen nation, visitors from non-visa-exempt countries must obtain Schengen visas from any country in the union before they can enter.
The visa allows the holder to stay in Andorra for up to 90 days; then, they must leave. Persons looking to stay for much longer must apply for a residence permit. Andorra is a microstate, and its agreement with the European Union determines its visa policy at any time.
The micro country doesn't have a standard airport for winged aircraft within its borders, but there are heliports in Arsinal, La Massana, and Escalades Engordany. Visitors entering by airplane must land at a close airport in Fence or Spain, then use helicopters or complete the journey or come by road.
Andorra ETIAS
Andorra will also implement the ETIAS program next year. The European Union has introduced the European Travel Information and Authorization System to vet visitors' identities from visa-exempt countries. Starting in 2024, anybody who is eligible for visa-free entry into the Schengen Union must apply for ETIAS approval before they are allowed to visit.
This policy covers all 27 Schengen countries, Andorra, and other nom Schengen countries like Bulgaria, Romania, and Cyprus. The reason for ETIAS is to improve the security of the continent by screening visitors against selected security databases.
Only eligible applicants may apply for this document, and here are the conditions they must meet.
- They must already qualify for visa-free entry because of their nationality
- They must have valid passports with at least 6 months of validity
- They must not seek employment during their stay
- They must be law-abiding
- They must possess Proof of funds and hotel reservation
- They must have every intention of leaving the country before or on the 90th day of their visit
Note: If you don't meet any of these conditions, kindly visit the embassy of a Schengen country to apply for a Schengen visa if you must visit Andorra.
If you visit Andorra by the time ETIAS is fully active, you must get this approval because it is required to transit through Spain and France. To apply, you must fill out an online application form and submit it; the system will screen your information in a procedure that will not take too long. After some minutes, you will get feedback. The ETIAS permit will be forwarded to your email if your application is approved.
Key Information About Andorra ETIAS
Mode of Use: Andorra doesn't directly require you to hold ETIAS since it is a microstate and not a member of the Schengen zone. However, to get to the state, you must pass through other Schengen states that require ETIAS (France or Spain). This is why you need to get the approval before your trip, as the law enforcement officers in both countries will demand it.
Eligibility: Like we pointed out a few times on this page, this screening is only designed for visa-exempt visitors. If you can currently enter the Schengen zone with only a valid passport, just know that you will be eligible for it once Etias becomes active in 2024. Persons not from visa-exempt countries must apply for Schengen visas.
Passport: Travelers are advised to use the same password for their trip that was used for the ETIAS application. The document is linked to the ETIAS, so traveling with a different passport will lead to entry denial.
Time Cycle: Visitors are advised to be mindful of the time cycle for their visits. The time cycle becomes active when they set foot in any Schengen country and expires after six months. This means the 90 days allowed for visits is calculated every six months. If they must stay for longer, they have to leave and wait for the 6 months cycle before returning.
Data Vetting: Once you submit your data, the system will screen it across multiple security databases. This process will take some minutes to ensure your internet is stable.
Application Fee: An application fee for this permit is payable online with a bank card. However, the fee is only for persons above 18 and under 70 years. Applicants outside his bracket can skip paying the fee. Also note that once you pay it, you cannot demand a refund, nor is it a guarantee that your application will be approved. Approval is based on meeting the requirements.
Manual Vetting: There is a provision for manual vetting under some circumstances. If an applicant's data triggers a few alerts that don't qualify them for automatic approval, the system will forward their information to the local ETIAS unit in the country they've applied for. The official there will manually vet their information and determine whether to accept or reject their application, and the final decision will be communicated to them.
Re-Application After Rejection: You can still re-apply and get your application approved after an initial rejection. There isn't a peg on the number of times you can apply, and a previous rejection does not guarantee that your future application will also be rejected.
